I am Interested on purchasing a Framework 16 laptop but the 7040 is out of stock but the part is available to purchase. I want to know if I can switch an AI300 mainboard to a 7040. Thank You
Update: I never had a framework before, I just to know if the AI300 is good as daily driver for gaming and homework, my current laptop is old. I just want to know more info about the AI300 model for gaming. And I read that the framework is upgradable, so yeah. I want a framework that’s all.
Being that I swapped a 7940HS to a 370, I don’t see why you couldn’t swap backwards. The chassis is designed to fit both. 
Edit: Sorry I read your post hastily and replied. I reread and then took into account you are likely saying you want to put the cpu of a 7040 on a 300 series mainboard? Did I read that correctly? That, I have no idea. But would be willing to bet not, because the pcie lanes are different based on the cpus.
Huh, that’s interesting… complete systems with the 7040 series are not available, but the standalone boards are… I guess it’s because complete systems are slightly assembled and tested before being packaged and shipped.
But yes, if you buy one with the AI 300 series board, you can then swap it for a 7040 series board. Though, that would be quite the extra cost to do so… maybe see if you get one second-hand?
I mean.. yes.. you can.. but I’m interested in… why?
