Test PSU on its own

Hi Everyone,

So very weird problem i have here. It looks like a few ants found their way inside the Framework case, and caused a short circuit and the desktop won’t start now. I’m trying to do some tests before giving it to a technician, to make sure whether the issue is with the PSU or the motherboard (please god no ). How can i troubleshoot this, i read somethere i could on the 24-pin ATX connector, insert a metal paperclip to bridge Pin 16 (PS_ON - usually green wire) and any Ground pin (black wire, such as Pin 15 or 17), and see if the PSU fans starts, and based on that I can check whether its a PSU or motherboard issue.

I don’t have another powersupply around or multimete unfortunately as well.

I would use one of these. Quite cheap and test all the voltages provided by the PSU: Amazon.com: Power Supply Tester PC Computer LCD 20/24 Pin 4 PSU ATX BTX ITX SATA HDD Digital : Electronics

Or you could disconnect the 24-pin and 8-pin cables that go from the mainboard to the PSU and try any ATX PSU outside the case, maybe you can borrow them from a friend or shop should be easy to find even if they physically won’t fit inside the case.

Thanks gentux, it was just the PSU thanks god, will need to order a new one.
