i know for a fact this issue has been documented before, i just wanted to add my voice to the choir.
i have a ship of theseus’d batch 1 framework 16, ryzen 7 7840HS mainboard which has been replaced 3 times throughout its life. Whenever I plug in a USB flash drive, every single usb device (including the keyboard, numpad, and touchpad) all immediately disconnect and reconnect.
normally, that’s just an inconvience. however, today it was detrimental and actually incredibly annoying. for reasons outside of the scope of this post, i’ve been setting up my own set of pgp keys and like a good little paranoid tech nerd, i did it on an airgapped tails machine. now, i used my fw16 for this, and the key ceremony involves a lot of plugging and unplugging various usb drives, and whenever the devices disconnected, tails would lose access to the boot drive and become crippled. i had gnome hard crash a couple of times. i had to start over twice because this happened before i could get backups off the machine and i lost the keys. the pain’s over for now, but i have a friend visiting from out of state who i’ll be doing their ceremony with and i’d like to have it figured out before then. i’ve found that a USB dock in port 1 or 4 mitigated the disconnects, though i could’ve just gotten lucky.
numpad and keyboard are first gen, haven’t been replaced yet
