Hi, I recently found this wonderful animation in a community post, and I thought: wouldn’t it look great as a splash screen for the community app? Let me know what you think

Between this and the ASCII logo animation in another thread, I really wish I had the money to buy a FW Desktop just to use it as a Steam Machine. These would look fantastic as SteamOS startup animations.
(SteamOS shows a little animation every time it boots or wakes up, and there are some really great third-party animations.)
You’re absolutely right, they would also look great as SteamOS’s boot animation. I hadn’t thought of that.
I’m trying to use one as a Steam Machine and … it’s not great. I think if I was using it with a computer monitor instead of a TV, I would love it. It’s fast and quiet.
I suspect my issues come down to a lack of HDMI CEC: stuff is always set wrong. The FW is asleep when the TV is on, the TV is asleep when the FW is on, always needing to switch input modes… I send a lot of time fixing settings using the TV’s remote.
I have an AppleTV that never needs me to touch the TV’s remote, so I know it can be done. Just not by the FW Desktop.
I intend to buy an actual Steam Machine, which I think will work more like the AppleTV. Then I’ll move my Desktop into the office so it can just be a computer again.
maybe it’s just exhaustion from the event, but I feel like I missed the point of this thread, what community app? and why not credit the artist for the asset? I’m so confused ![]()
Sorry, it’s my fault, I got confused. I meant a web app.
As for citing the author, I actually should have, it makes sense. Here’s the original post by @sniss
