Trackpad moving independently, not plugged in

I’ve read several posts about trackpad issues, and none of them quite fit the issue I had.

  • Which OS: Fedora 43, KDE Plasma Desktop, KDE Plasma Version 6.5.5
  • Which Framework product: Laptop 12, Intel 13th gen i5-1334U

While moving the cursor, scrolling, or clicking, the cursor moved further and in different directions than my inputs, and a few times continued moving after I stopped touching it. Clicks still worked, but wouldn’t land where I aimed them because the cursor would move as I was clicking. It went on for a few minutes and then spontaneously resolved.

This happened while NOT plugged in to any charger, so it’s not the known electrical interference issue. I tried cleaning the trackpad surface several times, but it continued. It’s not dropped inputs, as it was responding to my movements and clicks, it was just moving around more than I was touching it. Laptop temp doesn’t feel exceptionally warm.

Felt like someone was controlling the cursor at the same time as me, like when someone is remote-accessing your desktop and you both try to move the mouse at the same time. I guess I can’t rule that out, although I don’t know how anyone would have gained remote access to my laptop. I do have a bit of an ant problem in my house, and I’ve seen them crawling around on my laptop. Any chance it could be caused by an ant crawling under the trackpad?
