Ultra series 3 mainboard using suspend-to-idle instead of suspend-to-ram

I just upgraded my mainboard from the i5-1240p to the X7 358H. Battery drain during sleep seems worse than before. Also, rarely when I put it to sleep it immediately wakes back up. I noticed that deep sleep does not seem to be available. /sys/power/mem_sleep says only [s2idle], writing deep to that file gives the error Invalid argument, and when I suspend I see in the kernel log “PM: suspend entry (s2idle)”.

I get this same behavior on WD SN730 and SN550 SSDs. I’m using a Crucial CT32G75C2LP5X LPCAMM2 module purchased separately, and everything else in my laptop is original from the 12th gen Intel chassis.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue, or if you have deep sleep working on this same mainboard can you share more about your configuration?

Which Linux distro are you using? Ubuntu, fresh vanilla install for troubleshooting. Also observed on Fedora 44.

S3 is no longer available since the AMD 7040 series. There are some “hacks” but there’s no guarantee that they will work

Oh right, okay. Any ideas to fix the failure to sleep? I don’t have logs or anything captured since I assumed I’d fix that issue by just going back to S3 sleep but I will update the post with anything more I gather.

might be the wifi card being too old
