Using Framework 13 7040 without internal battery

I have removed the battery and now my external dock only works partially. I can still use my external mouse, keyboard and speakers. But everything related to high-troughput does not work:

  • External monitor
  • Ethernet port
  • Fast transfers to external storage over 30 MB/s

I’ve tried standalone mode with no success. Any tips?

Did you install an RTC battery?

No. I can understand why it is needed for maintaining clock accuracy, but for using an external monitors?

Some settings need power to be remembered, sounds like that effects using external monitors, I don’t know why.

A reboot will remember clock/time, but doesn’t seem to work for external monitors.

This RTC battery is useful when using the Mainboard standalone without a main battery, enabling you to preserve your system clock and hardware state.

Emphasis mine.

I suggest you try an RTC battery. Alternatively, you could reconnect your main battery, at least until you get an RTC battery.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

Update: I have a battery again and the external dock works. It behaves a little different now, but could also be a kernel update. Its weird that external peripherals require either a normal battery or an RTC battery.
