I have almost the same issue as this thread: Terrible Noise on the Internal Microphone
But in my case, it is not the noise but the signal to noise ratio. If I set the internal microphone capture volume to 40, it is clear enough that others on Zoom can hear me, but my voice volume is super low. I have to put my mouth near the microphone (within 3 inches) and speak loudly (almost a yell). Any capture volume less than 40 is really quiet; any capture volume above 40 and the noise is unacceptable.
The internal microphone worked fine under Windows 11 but I have sworn not to use it on my new personal computers going forward.
Anyway, any help or advice is welcome–thanks in advance!
I am going to go borrow a USB microphone for testing.
UPDATE:
I installed Audacity and recorded the Internal Microphone with the capture volume set to 40. The voice was loud enough BUT the background noise was higher. I’m talking about ambient environmental noise, such as the air conditioning rumble, other people talking quite a distance away, overhead music). With noise cancellation in Zoom, it is reducing my voice in order to remove the loud background audio.
Not sure why it’s picking up sounds that I can’t hear (without concentrating on listening) as loudly as my voice.
I am wondering if the issue is that there are two mics in the webcam 2.0 module that normally perform noise cancellation properly together in Windows but not in LINUX.
