Have there been any updates? While a multi-purpose battery pack would be cool, I would be happy to just have a 3d print file for the mainboard case which can accommodate an installed battery.
I’ve found a few that are open frames on the printables market, but nothing that is fully enclosed.
Just to say that there is still a lot of interest here! I’d love to buy a new battery for my old 11th gen and to reuse the old battery in a proper battery case.
At this point a battery case is a requirement to update an older (pre-3.08?) BIOS on a 12th-gen Intel standalone mainboard if you don’t have a spare laptop chassis.
i guess (maybe i’m wrong) but the case is the easy part. But on top there is need for some electronics that manage the charging and discharging of the battery… only with this part I would assume many of us would only buy this and use it as-it-is or print something nice to pack it all.
I absolutely want a battery case. Especially with another new generation of batteries coming out.
Really, I would just want to buy the needed hardware/electronic stuff from a real company. I’d be sketched about DIY-ing that. Just the bare minimum hardware stuff to turn my old laptop battery into a safe, functional powerbank.
I’d happily 3D-print a case or whatever if I could be confident in the electronic components.
If you could sell one set of electronic hardware that would work with any Framework battery, you could reduce SKUs. And people would design cases for the different sizes on our own.
Bumping! I can imagine Framework knew they were going to slightly re-size the FW13 battery, so they didn’t want to release a battery bank that’s just compatible with the old form factor. But now both are locked in… so please release one! I have an old battery sitting around, and I’m really trying to not make it e-waste. But eventually this is not sustainable.
Yes, that would be perfect. It’d be even better if it had room for the speakers too, such as running a server with audible alarms while using the battery as a UPS type backup power source. Or other things.
