Webcam module connector broke during install, any hope?

I attempted to install a Gen 2 Webcam Module in my AMD 7040 Framework 13” and it did not go as planned. The ribbon cable moves laterally quite a bit, as there is no guide of any kind for it, and there is a lot of play in module placement as well. The first time I managed to latch the connector closed but I guess it was slightly off and the webcam and mic were not detected by the OS.

I tried again as per the guide and had absolutely no luck getting the latch to stay closed, it would click but not stay latched. After about 4 attempts the black plastic latch popped out, then trying to re-insert it with tweezers caused the retaining springs to pop out and the pin assembly to come off the pads (see image above)

While I’m no Swiss watchmaker, I assembled the original framework from the DIY kit, have replaced multiple components with no issues (on the F13 and much more challenging situations like ahem certain cube shaped products), and understand how ZIF connectors work. This process completely defeated me.

Am I just out 45 EUR + shipping at this point (to make matters worse I already recycled the old module expecting this to be a breeze like keyboard install etc) or is there some hope to rescue the situation?

I forgot to add: I ended up removing the screen to try to get the cable into better alignment halfway through the process. To be honest, I think this should be recommended in the guide, as it takes 15 seconds, doesn’t really endanger the display connector, and allows much better control of the cable placement (or, alternatively, guide pins for the cable could be added to the cover)

I suspect that what happened is that I initially latched the ZIF cover with the cable slightly misaligned, causing one spring to pop out a bit and preventing it from closing fully again.
