Welcome! Please introduce yourself - 2nd edition

Hello I’m BrewCoffeeAddict,
I was using a Macbook Pro 2017 until I lost one of the two usb-c port… Luckily, I was preparing to leaving Apple ecosystem for a while and was dual booting with Zorin OS. Just tired of laptops that can’t be repaired and being blocked into a company expensive and limited ecosystem. My Brother got a FW13 intel 13th generation since 2023 and is very happy with it. So I took the plunge and got a FW13 AMD 7040 since March and I am so happy with it. Zorin OS just worked out of box so no waste of time tinkering with Apple proprietary components anymore. Reminded me when I was a teenager building my desktop from scratch.

Hello everyone!

I’m a long time Framework user. I got the 13 back in 2021 and the 16 in 2023 (I know, not quite their philosophy to switch so quickly).

I’ve been tinkering with OS’s and peripherals since before I even got my first Framework. Probably done a couple dozen linux installations while I was distro hopping (or screwing up my installations oops).

I’m in my last year of University and probably thinking about selling my Framework 16 once I get my trust level up so I can post in the marketplace thread.

Loved seeing the new pro release. Gonna have to bite my tongue not to snag it once I sell the 16 haha!

Hello! My name is Robbie, I’m an environmental biology student and event security guard for concerts and sports games.

I invested in a Framework 13 11th gen intel because I was tired of buying laptops for school that would only last a few years before something inevitably broke, and repair was impractical. I loved the idea of Framework because I had already built my own PC, and the idea of a laptop providing the same benefits was a no-brainer to me.

For my degree, every Saturday I go in the woods at night to take part in a research group studying the mating habits of frogs in my area, it’s a lot more fun than it sounds!

I love video games, biology of course, and just chatting.

Hello! :waving_hand:

I work in the software industry. I like the constantly evolving modular design and the ease of repairability of Framework products which was a breath of fresh air compared to other manufacturers’ products I used in the past. I can’t recall exactly how I discovered Framework (maybe Hacker News or some other tech blog), but I was a somewhat early adopter. Excited about the Pro 13 and future hardware iterations.

Hi. bought the 13 pro, waiting like a little child on the christmas presents. been waiting for years to be able to buy one without going thruogh another country.

Hello I’m a proud owner of a Laptop 16, gen 2. Not a tech professional at all, I’m a performing artist who also fell in love with the internet when it was a different place than it is now: IRC! Wikis! Free Software!

I recently upgraded from a 12-year-old Lenovo t440p (still working just fine by the way). Over the years I replaced the battery twice, the RAM twice, the keyboard once, the HDD more times than I can remember. Finally my old dependable started getting harder to use (I think it was the NVidia drivers that really made my life difficult). As I looked around for a replacement, I realized that if I bought any of the computers that appealed to me, I would have a hard time keeping them going for nearly as long as my last one. And just then Framework announced the Laptop 16. It took a couple of years for me to pull the trigger.

I had promised myself that next time I got a computer I would buy myself something with gaming chops. That makes even less sense now than it did in my thirties, but at least the integrated graphics in the AI 370 is enough to catch up with things I haven’t been able to play on my old machine. Someday no doubt I’ll upgrade to a dedicated card and belatedly enjoy today’s state-of-the-art.

The modular design means I can use the computer to catch the attention of my seven-year-old. We assembled the DIY edition together: now he knows what RAM and storage are and how to install them. He wants to learn to type and the challenge is that we’re a bilingual household. I’m QWERTY but we can slip in an AZERTY keyboard any time so he can learn in the language everyone else uses around him.

My two-year-old took charge of putting the stickers on the top case.

As a family we’re delighted with Dad’s New Computer.

Jack Of All Trades Master of none, found the Framework through LTT and am excited to have a product controlled by the consumer.

Hello, Framework!

I am enrolled in a university for pre-engineering courses, I want to be a computer engineer eventually. I’ve heard of Framework a while ago though just recently I ordered a Framework Laptop 12 (I’ll run a Linux distribution on it) for art.

I have a ThinkPad running Windows 11 for plugins and programs that don’t work on Linux. I also don’t like the thought of running Windows for university and another OS for hobby projects on the same computer.

Hi Framework/community,

I’m Soulcial, an undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering, and recently acquired a Framework 16 on the used market. I’ve gone from MSI laptops to a Macbook Pro, and recently built a pretty sweet desktop rig last summer. Framework’s sustainability really appeals to me because of some negative experiences I’ve had with laptops in the past. I’m really excited to play around with the resources made available by Framework and the community, ie. the open-sourced CAD files and various utility software published on the forums.

Greetings.
Lorenzo here, software engineer, miniature modeller, and owner of a Framework 13 & 16. As a tinkerer and free software enthusiast, the Framework concept appeals to me a lot.
Pleasure meeting you all.

Hi fellow community members, I’m Albert, a software/firmware engineer in Taiwan. I mostly do embedded and OS stuff professionally, but I also like to tinker with things like evolutionary computation and to have fun in general. I care deeply about the environmental impact of human activities, so I resonate with Framework’s mission to reduce e-waste. I also like to diagnose and fix things myself somehow. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: (Maybe it’s because I get to learn new things.)

If my memory serves me right, I first discovered Framework through a news article about the release of the Framework Laptop 13. Everything was fascinating, but when I was looking to replace my ageing laptop in 2022, they hadn’t expanded to Taiwan yet, so I had to shelve the idea of owning a Framework and go for another manufacturer. Now, with my laptop starting to fail, Framework having already expanded to Taiwan, and the new Framework Laptop 13 Pro getting me excited, I’ve placed a pre-order and am on track to become a proud customer!

Hello, I’m Dylan.

I have a Framework Laptop 16 that I use to play PC games. What I like about Framework is that they make laptops that are more customizable, repairable, and upgradable. I want to be able to collaborate with the community, ask questions about my laptop, and ask about any future products that Framework may bring out.

I suppose better late than never!

Hi there, name’s Danny. I’ve had Framework on my radar for a long while, and I finally got a Framework Desktop at the start of this year. The original plan was actually to build my own PC and then get a Framework laptop later on, but with the AI boom obliterating consumer prices for computer parts, I pivoted to accelerate getting a Framework before it got more expensive. Been very happy with it for my personal dev projects, hobbyist artist works, and my moderate-to-high gaming!

It’s interesting because this computer marked the start of a very hands-on experience since the start of the year. I’ve made the switch from Windows to Linux with this machine (CachyOS is really cool so far) as my first desktop computer & repurposed my previous laptop, a mostly functional ROG Zephyrus, into my first, makeshift homelab server. Been learning a lot about all this stuff, and it’s been a breath of fresh air (and weirdly fun) to have more control over my main electronics.

And man, it’s like night and day switching out from Windows, I should’ve done this sooner.
