I use Linux Mint Cinnamon and want to rice my DE in the style of my bubblegum colored framework laptop 12.
I have installed the quarz chicle theme (you can find it on /s/Cinnamon ) and figured out how to change the color of that theme in the config file.
My problem now is that I cant find a Hex code, that matches the outside of my laptop. I searched for the bubblegum colorscheme and came to #ffb6c1, however, this is a bit too redish compared to the outside of the laptop. This fits the promo pictures of the laptop (as picking a color code from there leads to a similar color), but not really how it looks in reality. The reality is a bit more pinkish.
I tried to matching it manually with tools, where you can slide around on a color palette and it gives you the hex code, but i couldn’t pinpoint it there either.
What do you think, which Hex code matches the real color of the bubblegum framework 12 the best?
I don’t have that laptop, so I can’t give you an exact hex code, but what I will say is that when colour matching things, it is often easier to put the colour picker into HSL mode (or HSV if that works better for you) instead of RGB. In RGB mode you are playing with the hue and saturation all at the same time, so you end up wandering quite a bit and it is difficult to know if you are getting closer to the colour you want or farther away. In HSL mode the hue, saturation, and lightness are all separate. This means that you can find the same colour easily (the hue), and then match the saturation afterwards along with the lightness to get it to look the same.

Thank you, that was actually helpful. On reddit I just got back, that I should give up, as the color of the body changes with the light and someones solution to that was to use the camera as a light sensor and make the system change color accordingly (which, tbh, would be very cool, but i don’t have the skill for that).
But with a HSL color picker, it is actually a lot easier to finetune my desired color.

Ha! That would indeed be an interesting thing, although I’m not sure it would be worth the effort. I think there is also a brightness sensor next to the camera, which could be used for that.
So, were you able to get matching colours and could share them?
Not really sure if that will perfectly match the color, but my starting point was using the product configurator and extracting the color from the website.

Yes, sure.
For context, the main problem I ran into is, that all the hex codes I derived from official promo pictures (like Simon_Bolscher also suggested), appear very redish, more like a skin tone, on the screen compared to the laptop. So I fiddled around to find something that seemed ok under average indoor lighting. Theoretically, the colors are too pink for the actual color, but in reality, they appear more like the laptop.
(oh, and I should add that I have redshift activated on it’s lowest setting. That obviously shifts the theme colors, too. (if you don’t use that, put the hex codes in a hsl color picker and slice the h part towards the red (higher) until you feel like it fits better))
I’ve actually got a whole palette for my theme. It’s primary and secondary color are obvious, but I’ve also added some purple (mainly for buttons and input fields) and some green (mainly for the terminal)
For every Color, there are 4 variants with slightly differing brightness, so I can have different areas in applications like nemo or system settings, for example.
I came up with the following and I think it fits relatively well:
pinks:
pink 1 #ffb3d4
pink 2 #ffbddb (main)
pink 3 #ffd1e8
pink 4 #ffdbf0
blues:
blue 1 #99ddff
blue 2 #ade8ff (main)
blue 3 #a8ecff
blue 4 #c2f0ff
purples:
purple 1 #c25ec9
purple 2 #ca71d0
purple 3 #d284d7
purple 4 #d997dd
greens:
green 1 #50fc9d;
green 2 #80ffb9;
green 3 #9afec7;
green 4 #ccffe3;
I also defined some darker/high contrast colors for text
text 1 #620080 (dark purple)
text 2 #2e2efe (darker blue)
I’ve integrated these colors in the quartz chicle theme I link above with pink being the main color, blue being for the headerbar and some accents and purple for buttons and in and output fields. I also used this color scheme as my terminal colors (hence there being exactly 16 colors, even though I don’t need all blue, green and purple tones)
I might capture my rice some time and upload it on a subreddit. I’ll make sure to link it here, when I do that.
That is waaay to redish.
I landed on #ffbddb as a main color.
