What if pricing... drops?

So, during the Framework [Next Gen] event Q&A portion, someone asked a question about the fluctuating prices in the consumer electronics world due to the memory shortage, and Nirav said Framework would continue the honor the price you originally placed an order even in the event that the cost goes up by the time it ships. This is awesome, naturally. But it begged a different question in my head.

I’d say that, personally, one fear as a consumer (when by purchasing something in a very unstable market) is the possibility that I place an order and then see the price for said product drop very soon thereafter, effectively wasting money by ordering too early. What if the pricing of components drop? Maybe the AI boom sees a a decrease in the previously estimated datacenter construction or maybe just some other market factor comes into play and the market sees a component drop in price in some rapid or significant way. Say I preorder a laptop or part today, and in a few months, before it ships, the memory (for an easy example) sees a significant drop in cost. Would my order still be processed under the original price?

if you are in a position to wait, wait. their exist broad agreement that the ram price hike have passed.

As Framework with all likely hood has already placed their memory orders at current prices I don’t think they will lower prices, as most customer wouldn’t want to give up their spot in the line. If that changes and Framework sees a mass exudes, maybe they will offer a price drop to those who try cancel the order; I hope they don’t as that would be anti-consumer.

Framework has already bought memory modules and stuff and keeps them in stock for the old price. When you preorder them, you get a price roughly based on what Framework paid at the time.

This means that you might make a good deal or a bad deal, depending on how outside prices develop. If the price goes down, you can always cancel the preorder and order again, but then you lose your spot in the queue.
