I’m looking at a new tab on the forums. When you scroll down to the bottom of a post, it gives suggestions that in my experience have been either new posts or posts I’ve interacted with that have had activity since, but now there’s another tab beside it called “Related”. Given that that symbol has been co-opted by GenAI, is this some sort of ML algorithm recommending new posts?
Discourse released the feature almost 2 years ago but I don’t think it was enabled on this forum until a couple weeks ago during infrastructure changes. It is “AI”, but it’s using the model to identify similar threads, not creating personalized recommendations or anything like that.
Weird, but not terribly invasive since I doubt it’s using a partner to evaluate those.
Correct – it’s all processed on Discourse’s servers using the thread’s (already public) content.
My understanding is before the forum maintenance, the top of the suggested was the current suggested, the bottom of the suggested was related. Now suggested and related are separate. Suggested are new and unread threads, and related are threads related to the current thread (public visible) not your user(private )account
