Daisy chain the monitors, TB4 supports multiple monitors using one port. Some monitors even provide power via thunderbolt to attached devices. That could potentially free up half of available expansion.

I have two old crap monitors: one is DVI the other is VGA. I have dongles to connect them even to my old workstation here. Chaining them is beyond whatever I even knew was possible.
And yes, I need new monitors, but the fact remains that right now this is my situation, and might be the case for others.

Ports for desktop use is not an issue if you use a dock. One USB lead and then you have everything off the dock.
