Which screen if mostly plugged into extra monitors?

If i’ll be mainly plugged into 32” monitors and only occasionally using the laptop on its own… - am i likely to use any extra resolution in the laptop screen? I assume that in order to drag from screen to screen i’ll need to select a suitable resolution on the laptop, so i probably am not going to use a higher res on it? - or am i remembering wrong and talking gibberish?

(intend to dual boot, but lets talk about windows initially) (and will be new to Win11 )

I don’t have Windows on my laptop, I use Debian with KDE and Sway, but with Linux you don’t need to have the screens at the same resolution.

But there are some weird boundary conditions when crossing between monitors in that case. If I have a monitor plugged in and it has higher resolution than the laptop screen I can only cross over to the laptop screen if my mouse pointer is within the area of the big screen that overlaps with the laptop. IOW, it kind of works how you’d expect.

If that makes sense…

If i understand your Q correctly.. For me, on Windows, I have no problems with monitors at different resolutions. Together with setting custom UI scalings per monitor, I rarely notice anything. I’m using a 24” Full HD, as well as an Android tablet over usb or wifi using the free version of “SpaceDesk”, and everything shows and connects without problems, no matter the resolution or frame rate. And i have the laptop open most of the time, so it’s a quirky three-monitor setup. but no problems either if i close the lid and use bluetooth peripherals, etc.
