This may have been posted elsewhere, but why doesn’t the 16 get the same bezel customization options as the 13? The 13 has 11 different bezel options. The 16 has 3. Do they not scale in size or something? I’d like a black chassis option too, but I understand that would be more of an undertaking. I’ve had my 16 for awhile now, and I love it, but I’d also like to change it up a little.
Side-note: Why do they make you select so many tags before you post? It specifically said I had to tag the external GPU, even though that information is irrelevant to my post!
I imagine they will release more bezel options in the future. Just that there’s always limited resources and time, and a need to prioritize. I believe in a recent video Nrp talks about the troubles they had expanding color options and doing translucent colors. That the regulations around fire retardant plastics for electronics limit the color dyes they can use.
I imagine it comes from trying to improve the situation where people often ask for help with a problem & forget to provide information about their setup. I mean, people will post that their X doesn’t work, but don’t even say what model they have, or any details whatsoever!
The forum software of course doesn’t know what you’re posting to ask about, and how much is relevant.
The 13 already has all the color options I’m interested in. I was wondering why they weren’t available for the 16. Presumably they have already been tested, and would only have to make the existing 13-sized bezels larger.
I don’t know, but it’s possible some colors might need different enough formulations as to require a different Framework 16 plastic injection mold. Needs to account for how the particular plastic sets. And those molds are crazy expensive. You want to be as certain as possible that one is exactly what you need before paying for it. I know Framework said that needing different molds has been an issue before for some Framework 13 bezels.
