I hope to see framework team decide to some day provide a part which is glass display without touch but with OLED panel or IPS and improved light sensor that makes brightness go up and down more smoothly. Right now i noticed it goes up and down more chunky on linux like instead of smooth it goes like 10%, 20%, 30% etc it jumps than adjust smoothly like a macbook can do. You can see it goes brighter, then darker, then brighter in a chunky steps.

What do you all here think?

Hi,

The light sensor on the FW16 is actually pretty good.
It can detect quite fine changes in brightness.
`cat /sys/bus/iio/devices/iio:device0/in_illuminance_raw`
The “jump in brightness” problem is caused by the way gnome handles it.
There is a whole discussion about it here:

> Hi all, I installed Arch (Endeavour) on my Framework with KDE and so far everything is running pretty smoothly. One of the few details I have not figured out is the ambient light sensor. I have seen texts about other Linux Distros that seem to imply that automatic brightness might work there out of the box but nowhere could I find any details about how the sensor or automatic brightness adjustment can be used. I also could not find any system setting that refers to this function. Is anyone her…

thing is that is for 13 inch framework not 16.

So i think there needs a guide for framework 16 too. Incase of different parts/sensors being used.

Also i’m using zorin os so i would like to see easy step by step guide for that or complete .sh script doing work for me 🙂 to adjust sensor behaviour in linux so it adjusts smoothly.
