Windows bios files not visible

virgin framework 12. thumb drive with bios files. Files not visible. drive formatted with GIB and both boot flags. What am i missing?

The boot sequence says it can’t find a bootable drive. No surprise there, as there is no mention of creating a bootable drive in the instructions. Is there an ios file lurking somewhere?

Like it says on “Windows 11 Installation on the Framework Laptop DIY Edition” – setup for Windows 11 seems extreme, but it is what it is.

i just tried this myself, and didn’t have to do anything special. I took a normal FAT32 formatted USB Stick, extracted the files from the EFI.zip file, and when i selected the USB stick from the boot menu, it started the BIOS update process. i didn’t have to fiddle with any partition flags, just format it as FAT32.

i don’t believe the drives need to be marked as bootable for EFI, it just needs to find an .EFI file on it.

what OS are you booting into to copy the files?

what program are you formatting the drive with?

Copied the files with Fedora 41. Formatted the drive with gparted.

Turns out that I shot myself in the foot. When I followed the instructions precisely for installing Windows 11, it worked without a hitch. My problem was that I am inexperienced on Windows, and was expecting that everything worked as it does with Fedora. Big mistake
