[7840u, multiple Linux distros] amdgpu reset error and subsequent crash

please tell me im not the only one who as this problem.

i love this laptop. tons. but i have been having so many amdgpu-related crashes on it i am so tempted to sell, return, or throw this thing out the window.

whenever i am making music (specific i know, but i dont really agme and when i do it seems fine), after a while the GPU will reset and promptly crash my desktop and sned me back to the display manager. here is a log file of the most recent occurance (below):

ive tried this on both fedora 40/41, and then cachyos to see if it was a fedora thing. ive tried both gnome and kde. heck, i even added kernel arguments for a different 7840u laptop [edit: i actually never redid grub but im testing it now] to no avail. i have lost hours of music because of this and i feel like im going crazy cause it seems like it’s just me.

if anyone has ANY idea, PLEASE help. i am tempted to just either switch to windows of give up and start a goose farm. thank you all

If your problem in terms of crashes is the screen getting to 1 fps or 1 hz when watching video then add amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 to the kernel parameters. This disables PSR (Panel Self-Refresh).
