The Strix Halo is a game changer. It’s a real solid attempt at offering something similar to Apple’s M-series chips. The wide memory bus and big iGPU is much, much more important to me than CAMM2. I typically buy a new system and use it for many, many years. The lifecycle typically is long enough that usually new memory standards become mainstream.
If it means the memory is soldered on to have a 256-bit memory bus, then I will always make that tradeoff. On a side note, maybe we should be looking into socket-able memory chips for the crowd that like the idea of swappable memory or just make a serious attempt at making HBM mainstream.
