After closing my laptop for some time, I believe it is going to the sleep state to save power (takes some time to boot up and asks me to login). However, my applications (browser and vpn client) are closed and do not resume after logging in.
I suppose I can turn off suspend to fix this but this comes with the tradeoff of losing power.
Should be going into s2idle when you close the lid and waking from that when you open the lid. Same as choosing to sleep from menu manually. Are you sure you dont have lid close action set to shutdown? Check journalctl and find out what its doing. Maybe its crashing as it goes to sleep.
It seems that you went to shutdown instead of sleep, or did you run out of battery during sleep?
how much time passed since you put it to sleep and “waked it up”?
I noticed that you are running a really old kernel, any specific reason to be using a kernel from April?
