I was having a browse of the Marketplace here on the forum, and it made me wonder if items sold within the original owner’s warranty remain warrantied for a new owner. Surprisingly I could not find information about this in the warranties themselves:
I know some big corporates are rubbish at this, and some will deny warranty claims for anyone but the original owner. Can we find out what the status of this is?
(Not a rush for me - more a useful thing to have documented on the forum).
I think this was discussed some time go.
FW support/warranty is for the device, not the user, so it follows whoever has the device, except if the device is stolen.
So, when purchasing a device second hand, ask the seller for the FW order number for when they purchased it.
Yes, that makes sense - FW could be said to be “doing business” in a country if it honours warranties there, and that might cause tax office antennae to quiver. It is up to the buyer I think to ensure any transferred warranty is valid where they are.
