Availability for Switzerland

I know the form was made with good intentions however, I would caution against this. Framework already has a way for gauging interest for a particular country. You can do so by selecting your country in the main page and signing up. Secondly, whoever fills out this form is risking their PII being exposed to a stranger.

Apart from this, expanding to countries is complicated even if the demand is there. There is a lot of regulatory loop holes that Framework needs to jump through.

Thanks a lot for the hint regarding the sign-up. I guess you meant the following:

(I actually did this without realizing).

in the mean time, I’ve ordered in China a replacement mainboard for my old Thinkpad W520, it should arrive today

Same here! Been waiting for Framework to make their machines available in Switzerland forever now and the lack of communication from the company is definitely frustrating! My laptop is starting to show its age and I’d like to replace it with a Framework machine but, if need be, I’ll go with another brand.

Does anyone have experience with Tuxedo machines?

P.S. I also don’t care about a Swiss keyboard as I use US anyway.

 Thanks for the form. I signed up.

I don’t have any experience, but Tuxedo will be my fallback solution if my 8yo current laptop dies before I can order a framework in time…

Judging by my past luck, I’ll probably order from a different brand about 2-10 days before framework announces the availability for Switzerland :joy:

So there was this same topic in 2020, it was locked in 2023.

Promises of soon, engineering for Swiss Keyboards, but:

It’s now the middle of 2024, shipping to Switzerland or at least importing to Switzerland without losing warranty support is still not possible.

Is it safe to assume it’s never going to happen and I can just buy any other laptop or are there any updates or timelines?

Everything is possible! I kind of lost hope that FW would ever come to where I live (Finland). And finally after few years its finally coming later this month.

It is just not worth waiting for a device which the company behind doesnt even have a clear communication.

I just bought a Lenovo device. This will last for the next years. No need to wait.

Is there a link/reference that could be posted here ?

@CptnHddck

What link are you wanting ?

I’ve been waiting for a year for the opportunity to order.

Worse than no shipping in Switzerland is not knowing why.

Is shipping time-consuming or complicated?

Or that there is no Swiss layout? (too small a clientele)

I would have no problem with a German layout. And most people probably wouldn’t either. In the worst case, you can also use a blank layout and stick the letters and numbers on yourself.

And if shipping or import is the problem, then at least the option of issuing an invoice for Switzerland and sending it to a German postal parcel center.
But that doesn’t work either.

There are certainly many options, but without knowing what the problems are, it’s difficult.
And unfortunately, framework isn’t entirely clear on this matter.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Nope Freight forwarding is not only not an option but not a legit discussion.

Inside the EU it is possible, but no freight forwarding for Switzerland.
Sadly Switzerland is also not part of the EEA which would enable a purchase via

Let’s be optimistic!

From the keyboard layouts proposed in Request: Review of Framework Laptop 16 Keyboard Layouts there are only 7 (out of 21) countries associated to a keyboard layout that are still not served! And in Europe it is only Hungary and Switzerland.

I hope Framework will start shipping to Switzerland before 2025. I would be a great Christmas present for myself

Very good approach. Let’s stay optimistic

I’m just wondering why freight forwarding or parcel shops were not strictly prohibited by Framwork before.
I got a Framework of the first series shipped to my parcel shop, paid by swiss credit card. Unfortunately I lost this device and now they make it very hard to order a new one.

Never experienced such a case with a product before.
Is it not the consumers responsibility in which country he wants to use his device??!!

The Framework laptops obviously come with a CE declaration. So from the legal side i see no issue.

As far as I can remember, it has always been prohibited. But one might not have realized unless they read through the terms. And I don’t know if the automated system to catch attempts was good in the earlier days.

Afraid not. A buyer is entering into a business relationship with a seller. And there is a contract that needs to be valid, especially for the warranty, which is an ongoing business relationship. If Framework does not have official authorization to sell in a certain country, then this is a problem. It seems a lot of other companies are either big enough that they have approval for everyplace they care about, or are small enough that they just try to ignore the issues. But ignoring the issue is very much not a good option for Framework, being that they do wish to get official authorization for everyplace they can. And violating local laws & regulations is probably a good way to get officials to slow your application, more than they already do, or just straight kill it.

That is not the issue, the problem is does Framework have a valid tax relationship with the Swiss Government. Until that is set up then they won’t be shipping to Switzerland.
