BIOS guide

Thanks. I did find this already too. It is just pictures of the screens, we can get that by going into BIOS settings. Looking for a user manual. Been looking around, seems like this BIOS got left behind 20 years ago - the last manual as you found is from 2003, and when looking around this week, it is true that many laptops have a very much more sophisticated BIOs now in 2024 which do so much more in terms of helping optimize performance in real time to get high performance + battery life. The Laptop 13 battery just lasts 5 hours, that is less than half of the better laptops at the same price. Maybe its all about the old tech BIOS?

sorry if it’s a dumb question. but what exactly does the ‘boot performance mode’ do?
it only affects the performance during boot?

A friend nick-named it the “jet-engine emulator switch”…

Obviously enough, one wants to know how the ‘boot performance mode’ accelerates boot and whether enabling the mode has any draw-backs. (Presumably there is some draw-back, for, otherwise, why have the option at all?)

Could you tell me about the details of the Intel Core Ultra Series 1 bios? What is the initial version of the BIOS? And the bios product is InsydeH2O UEFI Firmware, right? Could you tell me about the output of the following commands on Linux? Thanks.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-vendor
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version

I can not edit this thread’s first comment now. I don’t know why. I wanted to fix the tags properly.

I can edit the first comment now. :slight_smile:

@Destroya I think the Framework Laptop 16 AMD’s BIOS version is 03.05, not 03.03, seeing the following page. Only the BIOS Release Date is updated with December 6, 2024.

good catch! fixed it now!

@Destroya I think Framework Laptop 13 AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series’s BIOS’s latest version is 3.09, while the 3.07 is written on the following page.

On the following knowledge base page about BIOS, the “InsydeH20” (H20 = H twenty) is mentioned as BIOS product name, but is the “InsydeH2O” (H2O = water) correct, right? Could you fix the page? The Insyde’s InsydeH2O product page is here.

  • 11th/12th Gen: Once in the BIOS screen, look for the line “InsydeH20 Version GFW 30.03.10”

I already see someone using the term “InsydeH20” (H twenty) wrongly on this thread.

I also want you to consider describing the BIOS product InsydeH2O is used for all of the Framework Laptop and Framework Desktop, except for the Framework Laptop 12th Gen Intel Core Chromebook Edition, explicitly on a knowledge base article or somewhere. Because I cannot find a reliable document about Framework using the BIOS product InsydeH2O for the Framework Laptop and Framework Desktop. I want to write the info with the reliable reference link on the Framework’s Wikipedia page. Knowing the BIOS product is useful for me because it is related to BIOS CVEs such as this CVE mentioning the product InsydeH2O, introduced by the this thread.

This should be fixed. Thanks for the catch!

Hi uh, I noticed the latest BIOS on this page for the 7040 series says 3.09 but when you click on it, it’s actually 3.16.

The knowledge base article for bios updates for the Framework Laptop 13 (11th Gen Intel) only includes a link to download the 3.22 version, but it also says “Please note, you need to update to 3.17 or later to update using EFI, as this is needed to support a capsule on disk.”

I’m on a quite older version, 3.07, and I took this to mean that I should update to 3.17 first before updating to 3.22. But there is no 3.17 download link or installation instructions anywhere to be found. Is it safe to install 3.22 directly? Alternatively, where can I find the older 3.17 version?

You can find a link on the forum here, all BIOS updates are posted to the forum first as beta downloads. Just search for “11th gen 3.17” and I bet you’ll find it

In the future I suggest you sign up for the email list that sends an email when there is a BIOS update for your product(s) but it’s definitely good feedback to have a linked archive of all BIOS revisions just because it’s unintuitive to find them here on the forum instead of the knowledge base.

Hello. Is there a guide on how to enable hardware (OPAL) encryption on the NVMe drive, directly from the BIOS (OS-agnostic, no LUKS) ?

see following 2 post from the same thread. it contains instruction from framework member
