Black square artifacts on Core Ultra 5

A new post on the Arch forum suggests trying with the new Xe driver instead of i915 and setting a fixed amount of VRAM. The first part I am testing now. Try adding this to the CMD_LINE (grub/systemd-boot)

i915.force_probe=!7d55 xe.force_probe=7d55

If that still doesn’t work, you can also try adding:

xe.vram_bar_size=2048

I’m having the exact same issue on Fedora & Ubuntu with Ultra 5 and DIY edition of Framework 13. I’ve replaced the motherboard but the issue persisted, now I found this thread. I ruled out chromium because I also saw it happen in VSCode, but of course VSCode is based on chromium. Here’s my post about it: Screen issues on Framework DIY Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra

Has anyone figured out a solution? I also facing this issue on any distro and specially on gnome. New kernels do not help. I have Ultra 5 one.

Has forcing Chromium and Visual Studio Code to use Wayland fix the issue for you?
