Chassis temperature on 13 with 7840u

Does anyone else have issues with the chassis getting really hot with their AMD based 13 in Ubuntu? I have upgraded to the 120hz display (not sure is a potential cause) and rendering under load can make the skin temps skyrocket.

The APU temps are within acceptable ranged, but the chassis gets very uncomfortable to the touch. If you’ve had this issue have you been able to mitigate it? If so, how?

I’ve contacte support and been talking to them for like 2 weeks, but they haven’t been much help. The thermal paste has also been changed to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, without any change in chassis temps.

That’s expected with a metal chassis, even the user manual said that do not place the laptop portable computer directly on the user’s lap and exposed skin.

Yeah, unfortunately I don’t think changing the designator from laptop to “portable computer” in this section of the manual really impacts me here. That’s some super funny corpo speak though.

As you can see in the pics, the keyboard is getting over 48 degrees (C). Does that mean I shouldn’t use that either? Who really needs fingerprints? lol
