Dedicated GPU Usage Spiking from 0% to 100%

OS - Windows 11 24H2

Hello all,

My laptop’s GPU usage is spiking at idle. It is going from 0% to 100% every couple of seconds. It will sit at 0% for about 3 seconds, spike to 100% for about 1 second, and then back to 0% for about 3 seconds. I have some windows open, but everything should be running on the 780M.

When running games, GPU usage is almost always maxed out. For example, when running HOI4 at 1080p with all graphical settings set to off/low, GPU set to ECO, and CPU set to power-saving, it will use 100% of the GPU, but only around 30% of the CPU. This is a CPU intensive game, with little work needed from the GPU.

I am not sure what I can do about this and would like to know if anyone else has had similar issues/knows how to fix this.

Also, I am using the latest driver package.

what load is being run while it is spiking?

A couple of chrome tabs, a vpn service, task manager. No real load. Also, this is my first time noticing this and so from what I can tell, it only only happens after I start a load and then remove the load from the GPU, it does not occur at startup.

try ddu and reinstall drivers

Thank you, this worked.

perfect!
