When using the laptop, the display backlight randomly turns off. If i lock the device (which also disables the screen) and then turn it back on, it turns on again but the display randomly goes out again after few seconds to minutes.
I see no entry by amdgpu or anything related to display in journalctl.
This issue started yesterday. I rolled back mesa and it improved it (stays on for longer) but not eliminate it. Not sure if its just a random coincidence or not
When the display backlight turned off, did you use a flashlight to illuminate the screen, if you find that the LCD has displayed, is likely the backlight has intermittent connection. In such a case reconnect the display cable
I have started having this issue too. Also Fedora 43, bios 03.18, Amd Ryzen 7640, kernel 6.19. The LCD does indeed remain active. I am, in fact, typing by sunlight alone right now; the issue has become more and more frequent (3 times in the last few minutes).
I have found that closing the lid and opening again generally restores the backlight, but only by sleeping the computer and subsequently waking up. Merely rotating the lid on the hinge is insufficient to restore the backlight.
Did some research, right know I’m trying the fix mentioned in Backlight shutting off randomly and [Solved] Framework 13 AMD (7640U) randomly goes black and become unresponsive
So far so good, only been a few minutes. This could be it, they mention things got worse around kernel 6.11-6.13. I recently noticed that my kernel had gotten stuck on a very old version and addressed that, which would explain why I hadn’t experienced it before.
