Driver Updates (to few and far between)

Hey all,

Silly question. Does anyone get notifications when a new driver package is available for the 16? I’m having an issue with Autodesk Fusion and just happened to find out that the driver package was updated beginning of October.

With that said I noticed that this package is still a number of releases behind on the graphics driver. Does anyone just manually download the drivers and install them from AMD? Last time I did this it screwed up my amd adrenaline app.

Just curious how everyone is keeping their devices up to date.

IIRC that update was just to fix compatibility with the latest Windows update. IIRC they said at the time that they were working on a bigger update.

People have reported issues with AMD’s 24.10.1 and 24.9.1 drivers on Framework, however AMD’s 24.8.1 are working excellent for many users (other than the bug where they open adrenaline when the computer resumes from sleep, 24.7.1 doesn’t have that). Personally I’m on a beta driver from AMD and it is working great for me.

However Framework’s official recommendation is to use the driver’s on their driver pack, which is indeed outdated.

The Driver packages that Framework posts to their website are just for getting started. Once you get the initial driver package installed, you should be getting all other driver updates from Windows Update. If you see that your AMD drivers are behind, you can either check for updates through Windows, or download them manually from AMD’s website.

I mostly agree, apart from the latest AMD drivers, which seem to be soft-bricking FW16s. I had the scary experience myself, and I had to safeboot and strip all the drivers. Running the 02/10/2024 drive bundle restored all functionality and, in theory, it’s all well-tested.

I’ve also noticed that the AMD Adrenalin that comes directly from AMD shows available updates, the version bundled from Framework isn’t showing any updates (for me), almost like FW has stopped it from checking.

I’ve seen a few instances where FW are saying to only use their drivers.

Framework’s official stance is to only install drivers from their driver bundle or provided by Windows. They have tested the drivers, and feel that they are stable. Additionally, some drivers (such as AMD’s) are modified for specific devices/laptops.

AMD specifically states on their driver page:

AMD Processors with Radeon Graphics Product Compatibility

Important Note for Laptop and All-In-One (AIO) PCs

AMD recommends OEM-provided drivers which are customized and validated for their system-specific features and optimizations.

If you experience issues using the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver package downloaded from AMD.com, please install the OEM-provided drivers for full support and compatibility.

That being said, generally I install the latest AMD drivers provided via Adrenalin due to bug fixes and the addition of new/upgraded features, with the exceptions of 24.9.1 (which I experienced immediate issues) and 24.10.1 (which others reported similar issues).

I’m using the drivers that are provided by Framework via their installation package.
Still can’t figure out why Fusion is having an issue.
