Hello - I am a Windows user on the Framework 16 laptop. My laptop was working fine with the setup I have for external monitors (2). One monitor is USB-C to HDMI that I plug into the graphics module (backside of laptop). The other monitor is HDMI to HDMI into a Dell docking station via USB-A. I have had this set up for months now. It was working the other day and today it does not. I keep getting the message about limited display capabilities when trying to plug the USB-C to HDMI into the back of the graphics card module. It is not the monitor, or the cable. I can plug the USB-C to HDMI into the top right port (port 4) and it recognizes the monitor just fine. When I close the lid in this scenario, the USB-C to HDMI monitor is turned off while the other one via docking station remains on. I have the setting for close lid to “do nothing.”
I have reinstalled all the framework drivers. I have updated the AMD drivers to the most recent. I rolled back the most recent Windows update I could (08/13/2025), but nothing fixed it. There were some other windows updates that I couldn’t roll back.
If anyone can help, that would be appreciated. I will use the set up with my lid open, see what happens in the next few weeks, and if I cannot solve it, create a support ticket.
Apologies, I am not very computer savvy but I wanted to have a modular laptop because I believe in the right to repair and reducing e-waste. Any help is greatly appreciated.
*Update - Using this set up, the fans in the graphics module did not activate at all when playing a video game and the machine got extremely hot.
