Framework 13 AI 300 Series won't resume most of the time

Here’s the link: Redline® – 96GB (2x48GB) DDR5-5600 SODIMM PC5-5600 46-45-45 | MRA5S560LKKD48GX2 – SSD & RAM Memory for Gaming and High-Performance Servers

It’s CL46

I have had similar issues. If I suspend, the computer almost always turns off while suspended. I’ve liked everything else about my FW13, but not being able to suspend does interfere with my workflow.

System details copied from fastfetch:
OS: Fedora Linux 42 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition) x86_64
Host: Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series) (A7)
Kernel: Linux 6.15.7-200.fc42.x86_64
DE: KDE Plasma 6.4.3
WM: KWin (Wayland)
CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 (16) @ 2.00 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon 860M Graphics [Integrated]

For RAM, I’m using a single ADATA 32GB DDR5-5600 CL46 SODIMM (part number AD5S560032G-SFW), and my SSD is a WB_Black 1TB SN850X NVMe.

I’ve been too busy with other things to really troubleshoot this, but I’m planning to try running Ubuntu 25.04 in a live session to see whether it’s an issue with Fedora and/or KDE Plasma. However, based on the discussion in this thread, I am now wondering if the issue might be with the RAM, which the FW documentation describes as “OK - limited validation.” That’s exactly how the OP’s original RAM was described by FW.

If it was the RAM in your case I’d be surprised as it’s my understanding that all Framework-branded RAM is just re-branded ADATA modules.

However, it’s pretty easy to try out. Amazon has a permissive return policy on RAM so you could order some Crucial RAM, and if it works, keep it, otherwise return it.

I have the same Mushkin Redline RAM and the same issue. Going to try switching to Crucial and report back.

Hi,

While it is great that you have found the cause.

I.e. replace Mushkin Redline RAM with another make, e.g. Crucial.

I guess the question then is what is it about different RAM makes that some would work on resume and some would not.

Another thing to test is:

  1. Resume without any dock or PSU connected - Does that work.

  2. Resume with a PSU connected - Does that work. (I think this is more likely to fail)

I have tested every variation of disabling devices, plugging in and disconnecting power, etc. It does seem like when resume was working with the Mushkin, it was when battery was under 50% and disconnected from power, but even that was inconsistent (maybe successfully resuming 1/10 times)

The Crucial RAM fixed it.

I can confirm similar results. Mushkin 96GB kit does not let me suspend and resume, swapped to Kingston Fury 64GB 5600 MT/s kit that I borrowed from another working computer and it is fine there. Looks like something in Mushkin ram is the problem here.

IIRC Mushkin RAN is CL40 timing which is known to not work with the AI 300 series processors, they need CL46 RAM, which I think you will find the Kingston RAM is.

You said this earlier in the thread and it’s incorrect, the Mushkin RAM is CL46

OK, I was going from memory.

The kingston fury 5600 is also likely cl40 (don’t think kingston sells any 5600cl40 fury skus)
