Framework 13 (AMD 7840 Series) reboots if any usb devices are connected during boot

Hello everyone, my Framework 13 (AMD 7840 Series) started acting up.

Essentially, if anything USB (be it a device or power cable) is connected to the computer before powering it on, it does everything as usual, reaches the GUI and even runs for about a minute just fine, letting me run anything i want, and then it reboots (i can only assume) and returns to a pre-bootloader phase. Once it has done this, it reaches the GUI again, and does the same exact thing. The only way to prevent this i found is just letting it boot all the way to the window manager without plugging in anything and only then plugging in the devices i need.

What’s absolutely horrifying is that the kernel journals don’t even register it rebooting, they just get truncated, which made me suspect it wasn’t a kernel issue but rather a firmware issue, which is the whole point i came here in the first place; but, on windows this does not happen (dual boot), which maybe means it’s the kernel and various firmware fighting? I am really out of options, i tried pretty much everything I’m comfortable trying so far.

Here’s the best i could get out of the journals:

What i did try so far (to no avail):

  • Updating with pacman -Syu;
  • Removing all framework modules and using the ports without modules;
  • Testing various cables, power bricks and devices;
  • Booting with the alternative initramfs;
  • blacklisting the “cros_usbpd_charger” and “acsi_acpi” kernel modules before boot;

What i did not try so far, mainly for fear of having to use a power cable to do these things safely and having it crash on me mid-operation, or generally creating more problems:

  • Updating firmware;
  • Trying another linux distro;
  • Installing a different kernel;

Here is practically everything i could think of that could potentially help. Unfortunately, due to a rule that doesn’t let new users post more than 2 links in the same post, some links need to be manually copy-pasted.
