New motherboard had no gpu hangs so far! Running it for 3 weeks now.
I had the same problems also with i915 and then tested the xe driver, if the problem persists. Somehow I didn’t manage to roll back cleanly to the i915 driver on fedora, that’s why I stayed
Oh okay I understand.
You say that you had the same problems on i915 - meaning display freezes.
Do you know if the error message was also the same?
Good that the new hardware is working well!
yes, gpu hang I would say. Cause sometimes the mouse was still able to move which would speak against display freeze.
I don’t have a record of an error message on the i915 driver, I suspect them to be nearly identical (as far as that would make sense)
If another gpu hang occurs I may can share one here too
Now more than a month is over since I got the replacement motherboard. I still run Fedora 43 on GNOME over Wayland and no gpu hangs or any other issues occured. Seems after all this was all hardware related.
Yikes, i’ve had the same issue on my new motherboard, got a replacement MB, same issue again. I’m starting to get annoyed : do they even test their hardware before shipping it?
Hello! I know this is quite late but I am running the same model as OP on the current linux kernel 7 on Fedora 44, I consistently get freezing when using the xe driver, but on the more supported i915 driver it runs flawlessly!
I’ll have to say I had the same issue on arch linux some time ago too. For those who are asking why would one use xe over i915, well for me personally video games and 3d software run much more smoothly on xe and I have to tell you the gain is noticeable, but stability-wise i915 takes the win.
I had opencode (I might get some big frowns over this but welp.) assess my system logs some while ago and it seems like it is indeed a driver issue and the system is getting hang on a loop or whatever and not being able to fall-back from it.
Hope this helps! just stick to i915 for now I think.
