Framework laptop with Windows 11 pre-installed cannot be used without internet connection. This also requires seemingly unnecessarily signing into a microsoft account. Is there a way to enable using the computer without an internet connection once you’ve already gone through set-up? Alternatively, can the laptop be reset to go through set-up again in order to configure it for offline use? If so, what is the process?
neither can any windows 11/10 install. Microsoft is forcing people to set up their computers with a microsoft account and you can’t really undo it without reinstalling windows.
So, this was a factory install of Windows that I cannot re-install. Is there a way that I can get back to initial set-up so that I can bypass at the right time? I had no idea at set-up that this Microsoft snafu was in the works and find this Windows 11 computer substandard due to this internet connection requirement and all the signing in just to use it.
I really wish there was a good ‘install-and-go’ alternative to Windows for those of us who just want to use a computer rather than tinker with programming it.
Yes, search the start menu for “Reset this PC”.
You can also just unlink your Microsoft account from Account Settings. It should prompt you to set up local credentials.
It does not need constant internet access to function.
What I found was this: when linked, an internet connection was required to use my computer - I could not access anything without going through the Microsoft Account gate which required an internet connection. Also, I was unable to connect to the internet, say at the library, where I needed an internet connection in order to log into the Microsoft Account gate in order to get into the computer.
Thank you for the tip to unlink my Microsoft account. That saved me a (an unnecessary) reset in order to do just that.
