Framework 16 Ai9 370 Bios update Linux How To

I just updated my FW16 Ai9 370 Bios from Version: 3.04 to 3.05 using Fedora Linux KDE.

Mine went nice and smooth, so I thought it might be prudent to pass on what I did. (Essentially followed the direction) with a bit more detail.

Follow the direction from here: Bios update to version 3.05

Note that this is an update for the Ai 300 series of CPU’s only!
Take your Laptop down to SOC 40% to insure that the Laptop is charging during the update.

Plug it back in making sure that it shows charging and being connected to the Charger.

Now have a terminal open and paste in the commands as in the direction given.

1st command: fwupdmgr refresh --force

Then hit enter to let it run through

2nd command: fwupdmgr get-updates

Hit enter and let it run through. The next command will cause an instant reboot/Bios upgrade, so have everything save/closed before you hit enter on that one.

3rd command: fwupdmgr update

Hit enter and the Laptop will reboot starting the update within a few minutes.

Don’t touch anything !!

You will see the framework small symbol and below it small blue dots will appear one after the other as an indicator that the update is happening.

At the end the Laptop screen will go completely BLACK with just the power button iluminated.

DO NOT touch anything and wait until the Laptop reboots!!!

It took on mine a couple of minutes with a black screen, giving the impression that its either finished or stuck….it is not!!! Wait until it reboots by itself into GRUB or whatever operating system you have running. Surprisingly mine booted into GRUB which originally required the boot process to be set to manual in the BIOS. I expected it to have gone back to default, but apparently not.
