Nice! It really helped the fac that everyone confirmed that is not as bad as it looks
Mine is already dispatched and I’m still waiting for the RMA on my laptop, so I’ll have the GPU before the laptop

When being on the boat I had removed the external GPU board to reduce the power-requirements, as while navigating, we only have 12v and limited amount of power.
But TBH, apart from not really being able to play my AAA games in the evenings, it was awesome. And the possibility to physically remove & Add it - amazing!
Wow, identical boat
Fortunately I currently do not have the time to play around with a new GPU but by the time everything’s back I should be all good to mess around and have fun.
Everything has arrived and can confirm, while it does sound like a jet engine at high loads, it works exactly as expected with minimal coil whine (or at least any coil whine there is is completely drowned out by the fans anyway)
Thanks for the update.
That’s quite perfect tbh. I’m currently using my old MacBook Pro 2015, running an Intel Core i7 that’s always hot
Just received mine today. Now, I just need to receive the replacement laptop.
Sorry for the late reply. It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forms. I always run FFXIV as windows borderless. Most of the settings are very high. Frames are usually around 70s-80s.
I had mine for a while now, and, there’s not that much coil whine.
When using Fusion360 and rotating an object, if the fan is not running I can hear a small noise similar to a bad oiled door closing slowly.
But, as soon as I start and make changes, the noise from the fans takes over and I need my noise-cancelling headphones.
When I’m scrubbing through footage in Davinci Resolve, I can hear it make little noises. However, it doesn’t bother me because…
A) It hasn’t exploded yet
B) I used to work around aircraft so my hearing isn’t the best
I want a more powerful GPU for rendering in other programs and I really don’t care if it’s chunkier than this one (or if it requires an extra power supply to get more performance). If I need to travel, I just swap in my Shell module.
I actually just noticed some coil whine on mine today while just sort of fiddling with it. I only noticed it on the main screen of PassMark PerformanceTest with the little spinny motherboard, and it wasn’t super bad and probably wouldn’t be noticeable if I weren’t in a pretty much silent room.
Otherwise, the performance seems pretty good, apparently on par with the laptop it’s replacing which I wasn’t actually expecting. I was expecting it to be a little worse than the laptop it was replacing, which I’d accepted since in theory we’ll be able to replace it, but I’ll take it being about the same.
On the flipside the CPU benchmarks worse, which is also opposite what I was expecting, but I like this laptop more so I’ll probably just accept that, too.
