Framework AMD Ryzen 7040, Arch linux: screen much darker after kernel upgrade

I am running Arch on a Framework 13 AMD Ryzen 7040. I today did a full upgrade, including the kernel. The laptop screen is now noticeably darker than it was before the upgrade. It now looks about as bright set to 25% as it used to when set to 10%.

This isn’t a huge problem—obviously I can just make the screen brighter—but as part of learning my way round Arch and the Framework laptop, I would like to understand why this happened and whether I can change it.

Thanks

Also have this problem. I’m on fedora42 kde 6.4.0 and kernel 6.15.3. I’m guessing the kernel is to blame. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

OK, I will, though it’s definitely a linux kernel problem!

I see. Yes, the line is in the kernel log, so this seems likely. If I’m reading the commit right, the kernel change was meant to bring the brightness value of the user space closer into line with the brightness values specified in the firmware? If so, that sounds like a good thing, and perhaps I should try to get used to it rather than changing the parameter. I’ll think about it. Thanks!

However, I can confirm that changing the kernel parameter solves the issue, so I’ll mark it solved. Now I just need to figure out this thing where using the brightness keys occasionally freezes the entire system…

…or I would mark it solved if I could work out how to edit the original post!

I actually love the change as my screen can get much dimmer than before, which I like in the evening!
