Framework Laptop 16 Recent BIOS Update

Framework Laptop 16, Ryzen™ 7 7840HS Series, Fedora 42 Workstation updating to newest BIOS from 1 bios previous. Tried to install the keyboard updates before using the Gnome Store (did not work unfortunately). Laptop has the newest bios, but cannot be used due to the keyboard and numpad not receiving an update. Cannot boot into account to install it either graphically or through terminal: this is all despite having an external keyboard and mouse plus trying to take out both the keyboard and the numberpad when on plugged in power. What to do now?

Disassembling your machine while it’s powered up could be a bit dangerous - hopefully there were electrical damages resulting from that.

I’ve seen (and others have reported) a popup when the keyboard and numpad were not updated after moving to BIOS 4.02, but that popup could be navigated past by hitting enter (the popup had something listed about the keyboard/numpad not being updated to the latest firmware version and a reminder to do that followed by something like an “ok” button - running on memory about its specific wording). Not having the latest firmware did not actually stop anything from functioning.

There are several people reporting on how to update the relevant firmware in the thread I’ll link below, but that might not be helpful at this point if you have damaged hardware or something else going on.

Welp wrong wording. Just the numpad module and the keyboard module were taken out. It was not the actual whole laptop (so not the midplate cover, that was still on) . Thanks for the help, the reason for not booting was just some kernel related issues. All I had to do was to pick an earlier kernel, I was able to update the keyboard properly using the Gnome Store. Thanks for the help.

Ah heck yeah - glad to hear about a happy ending.
