Framework Laptop 16 Ryzen 7040 BIOS 3.05 Release

I don’t care if they annouce anything, or if they communicate anything. I want a release. Yesterday. There is a freaking community fix, they don’t even need to find the error, just pull, build, validate.

There is still no mention on if or when the long standing USB Power Delivery (PD) negotiation issues will be fixed. I reported the issue to Framework Support back in April 2024 and they have (AFAIK) done absolutely nothing to fix the issue in the last 14 months. My warranty expired several months ago and I’m still left with a machine with defective USB charging firmware.

Speaking of PD issues. I have a dock that can put out 100w to the laptop and it will do fine keeping it charged while working. Lately though, I have noticed the laptop gets all confused once I have connected the 180W framework charger to it. Then, sometimes, the laptop after will refuse to even charge from the 100W dock so even while connected to it I will keep losing battery as if not connected.

The only way I have found to break it out of this weird confused mode, is to power the laptop off for a while. No reboot, no power off and back on. Actually disconnect from the charger, power off, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then once powered back on it is back to normal again.

I have the same issue BUT only with my Lenovo dock. So this might possibly be the dock getting confused.

As others have said, I get that they don’t like to list things until it’s released/finalized but this is a huge issue and the least they could do is acknowledge the community that they are aware and addressing it. I have scoured online forums all over and not been able to find anything even confirming they at least heard us. Seems like all their focus is going into the 13s and 16s get no love…

Edit: fixed a typo.

I received what might be a duplicate notification of 3.05 availability. I’m already running 3.05. Should I be concerned?

Thanks so much. This forum is THE BEST.

The FW16 BIOS situation is rather confusing right now. What I know is:

  • 3.05 is the latest stable release of the BIOS.
  • 3.06 BETA was released on 6 August but was quickly shut down due to issues with the CPU clock speed getting stuck around 545 MHz after sleeping in some instances. (Source)
  • 3.07 ALPHA was distributed directly to select customers starting last week. It corrects the sleep issue (and maybe some other issues) with 3.06. It might get released to the BETA channel sometime this week but there are users reporting that the current ALPHA build has some stability issues. (Source) (Source)
