Free Input Cover

Free FW13 Input Cover

So, over the weekend I was traveling for a work event and I started having a couple of keys that were non-responsive. So I cracked it open, re-seated the touchpad ribbon cable and turned it back on. It was working normally again…until it wasn’t. I opened it back up and re-seated all the ribbon cables in the input cover. I closed it up and it was waorking…until it wasn’t. Now many of the keys weren’t functioning. It was either a ribbon cable that needed to be replaced, an entire input cover that needed to be replaced or the mobo that was the issue (and that would just suck). I would have gotten the ribbon cable and started there, but I really needed to have this working as soon as possible. So I bought the whole input cover. It works, not I have an input cover that “might” still work with just a ribbon cable replacement (or be good for parts). Instead of just recycling it, I would like to give it away for just the cost of shipping. So if anyone wants it, please DM me.

Note that I would be shipping from New York.

I had a similar issue a few months back where a certain few keys weren’t working.
After looking up the keyboard matrix (shout-out to DHowett!) I realized one of the traces on the ribbon cases was punctured.

This seems like a similar case where the input cover should work after swapping the connector cable!

Just thought I’d leave the message here in case anyone was interested in picking it up!

Would it be possible for you to add the location you are shipping from?

That way it will be easier for people to see if they want to cover the shipping costs.

Kudos to you for offering it to someone for repair/parts! There have been some posts in the past about the posts in the corners breaking off on a few Framework Laptop 13 machines usually after they have been to a repair shop who took screw tightening lessons from a gorilla.

Taking a FW to a repair shop?!?! That seems counterintuitive to the DIY enthusiast culture around the brand.

Yeah, I was about 60% sure that a ribbon cable replacement would do the trick, but will be traveling again soon and couldn’t risk having to wait longer if it didn’t work.
