Looking to try out a FW13 for clients (I’m a FW16 user).
What FW13 model that can be purchased today is considered the leader in battery life?
Thanks folks.

Looks like the AMD model might slightly edge out the Intel Ultra.
yeah, I’d assume the ryzen 340 or 7640 would be best.
The ryzen ai ones according to current tests are not doing well on battery (yet), probably need a bit more time in the oven software wise.
ah, okay. That is good to note. Additionally, check the idle and load power draws of the ram and storage you were using. I heard form level1techs iirc that the solidigm p41+ nvme has low power draw. Additionally, the matte display should have lower power draw over the 2.8k display because of refresh rate/resolution and repasting with PTM should lower fan noise/draw as well. Be careful with the 61wh battery because it doesnt like cycles very much
My idle power is allright and the ssd certainly wasn’t the problem and usually won’t be as long as the low power states somewhat work and you aren’t doing something that constantly saturates the disk. I also don’t got the 2.8k display XD.
As for the ram idle power, I tested that and it made basically no difference, using only one stick was somewhat measurable but not really worth it imo.
Pretty sure the new ones come with PTM, on my 7840u it definitely reduced the noise and increased the max power I could pull but it didn’t do much to reduce power consumption (apart from needing less for the fan).
Isn’t the issue that it doesn’t like staying fully charged much or is there some other issue with cycles that I missed also going on?
Yeah, probably but these are all the ways I can think of
i am not sure whether new 7x40u comes with ptm or not though, which is why I mentioned it
idk but I have seen the pictures and I am scared.
7x40u didn’t and probably won’t but the new ryzen ai chips apparently do (which is a low cost high impact change).
Oh come on, spicy pillows in laptops are a pretty common sight. I hope mine doesn’t mostly cause ordering a replacement is somewhat inconvenient due to geographic reasons but other than that it would not be a huge deal.
true, but the one year of use i saw one user post making it into a spicy pillow is what scares me. I don’t want madden: the battery where I’m paying $70 every 1-2 years
Me neither but so far there were a few that pillowed after one year but also a lot that didn’t, they also extended the warranty on those so the 70$ issue is somewhat reduced.
No need to be scared but definitely to keep an eye on.
I do wish they would have just made the thing a bit ticker and used a slightly less dense but more durable battery but we can’t have everything I guess.
yeah, true
SK Hynix P41 Platinum and Solidigm P44 Pro are essentially the same drive, except that the Solidigm version was manufactured in the former Intel SSD plant. There is a firmware update for the P41 Platinum available on the SK Hynix site that fixes a problem with the drive getting slower over time; the P44 Pro had good firmware all along.
Solidigm client SSDs are now discontinued; that brand is now only being used for enterprise products.
I think Framework plans to eventually move to PTM thermal pads for all products. Existing inventory of Ryzen 7000 and Intel Series 1 won’t have it, nor will older mainboards from the Marketplace. FW16 production has switched to PTM from the original liquid metal.
