FW16 Failing to update bios, also will not turn off

I originally had ubuntu on my FW16 but recently switched to windows 11. Anyways, I tried installing the bios drivers and the update fails. The laptop returns working like normal except…. I cant shut it down. It begins to shut down and then just pops back online. I didn’t have an EFI partition so I made one on my boot disk (though I did not move boot control into that volume). Is this a ESP issue? Do I just need to make that EFI functional? I am at college and my classes start in 5 hours. I am very very frustrated. I assume, and I also did a lot of googling, that because the EFI system partition is an OS independent partition that acts as the storage place for the UEFI boot loaders, applications and drivers to be launched by the UEFI firmware, that the laptop is protecting itself by not letting itself turn off (??). I worry I didn’t correctly setup my EFI partition. And before someone asks I think I did wipe the EFI partition that was originally there. I am new to setting up windows and my friend and I thought it was a remnant from the linux system on the nvme. I forcefully changed the partition ID using diskpart. I don’t know for sure if this was the EFI partition but it probably was. Live and learn. Any help is appreciated.

if you installed Windows, why did you not wipe the disk and let Windows create new partitions instead of using the old ones left over by ubuntu?

If you’re not trying to create a dual-boot setup, and assuming you don’t have data you didn’t backup elsewhere, I would just delete that entire drive and let windows set it up as a new device… unless I’m missing some other context here. If the extra effort is intended as a learning experience, then that’s fine. Hopefully you document what you learn here as well
