I have a FW16 AMD 7840HS CPU, no dGPU.
For a while now, I have seen green flickering artifacts on the display intermittently.
I have recently install Kernel 7.1.8 and the artifacts seem to have disappeared.
So, just mentioning it, in case someone is running 7.1.5 or 7.1.6, or 7.1.7 and wish to find a fix for the artifacts.
I have a new bug, whereby the max brightness (using the brightness up/down F7/F8 keys) is actually dim. If I press F7 a few times, the display is at normal max brightness again.
brightness: 62291 is bright. 65535 is dim
actual_brightness: 63584 is bright. 0 is dim
So, it seems that “actual_brightness” matches what the user sees happening.
the “brightness” matches what the user sees, except at the 65535 setting.
So, there is some sort of bug mapping brightness → actual_brightness.
I have more often than not had to hold back recent kernel updates because of these bugs. I’m wondering why the Linux kernel has been such a mess lately. Anyone in the know have any idea what is up with recent kernel development?
Linus is suppose to be a harda$$ when it comes to the Kernel, but I think he might want to restrict additions a bit more until they catch up with all the bugs introduced lately.
I run Fedora 44 KDE Plasma and its been a really wild ride since getting this Laptop about 6 months ago. I couldn’t get 2 days out of it without getting GUI freezes SDDM issues…etc.
It was so bad that I thought I might have a RAM issue but now it has stabilized somewhat.
