FW16 with AMD & DGPU (Fedora/ W10 dual boot)
Been using my FW16 much more intensively over the last 20 days (full days using the laptop, rather than just using it as a back-up machine)
I’m out on the road and setting up at each location I’ve been at has been completely different in terms of sitting at the desk and working. Monitor location varying, power plugs, network, etc)
Full set-up has been keycron k6, Glorious 0 and a secondary monitor when one is available. Normally I also plug in my earbuds and whenever possible use the Ethernet module.
What a blessing of a laptop.
I have switched the location of 4 of the 6 modules multiple times to accomodate the setup (montior on the left then next location on the right) and switched inputs from HDMI to USB C to display port, from left right, etc.
Same with the headphone port and USB-A (due to only mouse dongle), I probably should have purchased at least one more USB-A but I thought i was past needing it.
I thought i would enjoy the modules and getting them set to an optimal layout but the fact is i am now doing the opposite in that (with respect to the limitations) I just put them where they are needed for that desk setup and this has helped reduce the spaghetti normally associated with a temporary set-up.
The only thing I’m not happy with so far is the DGPU. I just can’t find a sensible way to use the direct connection to the USB-C port on the back and it doesn’t really hot plug like the other module slots do.
As I’m not using the trackpad I can avoid the spacers which I really would like them to fix with a full width, one piece cover attatched to the trackpad.
Other than that I have really enjoyed having this laptop on the road, I still don’t have a suitable bag for it but that’s not the end of the world.
