helloSystem (Live ISO for Mac switchers based on FreeBSD)

Success running helloSystem 0.7.0 on a Framework Mainboard with the 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5.

helloSystem is a desktop system for creators with a focus on simplicity, elegance, and usability. Its design follows the “Less, but better” philosophy. It is intended as a system for “mere mortals”, welcoming to switchers from the Mac. FreeBSD is used as the core operating system.

  • Currently the GPU does not get recognized yet. As a workaround, one needs to start with set initgfx.detect.disable=1 as described at https://hellosystem.github.io/docs/developer/graphics.html#disabling-the-automatic-graphics-driver-setup.
  • Compatible Intel WLAN drivers are not in helloSystem 0.7.0 yet, but are being worked on in the FreeBSD project.
  • Only the Framework Mainboard but not other Laptop components (such as battery, touchpad, fingerprint sensor, etc.) was available for testing.
