How to carry GPU and/or expansion bay?

Hi!

I travel quite a lot and I like to play videogames now and then.
The FW16 + GPU does not fit inside the laptop compartment of my backpack, so what I do is mount the expansion bay and carry it there, until I reach my destination, and then mount the GPU back.

The issue with this is, I have no casing for the GPU while I am carrying it or the expansion bay while is not plugged in.

I found this project, that is super great Expansion Bay Carrying Case (In Progress) - #17 by EmilioP but I’m looking for an immediate solution to help me carry these two accessories.

Has anyone find out a solution for this? Right now I’m looking at small cardboard boxes (just browsing through Amazon) but I wonder if there are better alternatives.

Thank you!

Well, I leave the unused part at home. If I travel, no GPU :frowning:

i just got a bigger backpack (i dont have the cooling-only expansion bay nor can i be bothered to switch expansion bays frequently)

Thank you for the answers, I’m looking for some sort of case for the GPU and the expansion bay so I can transport them safely - what I mentioned in my initial post was more of a way to give a personal point of view, but not to distract from the main point of this thread

I would just purchase a plastic case big enough to hold the GPU Expansion bay and the fill it up with precut foam inserts such as the one in this link https://www.amazon.com/Apart-Foam-Insert-Toolbox-Storage/dp/B0CBV7KB94/. I’m not sure if there might be any static buildup but just in case, I would purchase an antistatic bag. You could also just go and purchase anti static foam instead but that might be a bit more expensive.

So, I found a bit of an overboard solution, but keyboard cases are often wide enough and tall enough. I have this one that I bought a few years back, and no longer travel with that keyboard. It did include some little velcro blocks that I use to hold the GPU module in place. I also have the GPU in an anti-static bag.

That said, the case I linked seems to have gone through some redesigns as my version has fixed elastic straps, so YMMV. I found that most of the ones on Amazon you need are either TKL or 96% cases to get the over 14" width required. I thought about emailing some of these companies, but ended up being lucky with what I had on hand already.
