Does anyone have any information on affect on battery life, running or suspend, adding the 2230 card?
With both drives doing a scrub on the raid1 partition:
(SN770M top)
Rate: 3.43GiB/s
Rate: 3.79GiB/s
With just one drive doing it at a time with both slots still filled:
Rate: 3.49GiB/s
Rate: 4.45GiB/s
So while the SN770M is a little slower its not noticeable in sustained sequential read/writeloads.
For random i/o the SN850X does perform a little bit better, but neither is really “held back” to the point of it being noticeable or (to me) mattering at all.
Has anyone tried just this by itself? Crucial P310 2TB PCIe Gen4 2230 NVMe M.2 SSD - Up to 7,100 MB/s. I would like to know if the heat is lower? Would like to replace it with current Samsung 990 Pro 2280 if there is less heat. Would a 2230 produce less heat since it is a smaller form factor and more room for air flow?
I am. I have a 4TB Lexar NM790 2280 as my primary for Linux and a 2TB SanDisk? SN740 2230 with Windows as the secondary SSD, which I can boot to directly or in a VM within Linux. So far it has been working very nicely. I haven’t encountered heat issues, but I typically am not pushing the machine very hard.
