Is there reasons on the Ubuntu side why Framework doesn't list Ubuntu as officially supported for the AMD AI 300 series?

Is there any specific issue on the Ubuntu side that’s preventing it from being listed as Framework-supported for the AMD AI 300 series?

Speculation: They waited until Ubuntu 25.04 came out because they wanted to support that, and they forgot to update the page once that was out.

Or they’re still testing/validating Ubuntu 25.04 with the laptops.

Here’s a big ol’ thread documenting the current issues.

They’re still busy validating ubuntu, the main reason seems to be that Ubuntu is a little behind on their kernel versions. Wi-Fi stability seems to be one of the biggest issues, with occasional freezes also being reported a lot.

Indeed, this is an issue. I was upset once I got my new laptop with broken Wi-Fi. I had to manually upgrade linux kernel to latest version at that time to make it work.

This is a (new) compatibility matrix based on a multitude of factors.

In the near future. The “Framework Computer Platforms” grid will appear on the Linux Landing Page.

@Matt_Hartley Thank you for creating the knowledge article!

In the Framework Computer Platforms section, the Framework Laptop 12 (13th Gen Intel® Core™)'s minimal kernel version is written as 6.1. Is it correct? It is a bit older than other Framework Laptop’s minimal versions.

That looks reasonable as Intel 13th gen is an older platform compared to the other (newer) laptops. Although you probably want at least 6.13 fir the cros and tablet stuff.

Yeah, it’s old. But meets the “does it boot and run” minimum requirements. Obviously ancient and a non-starter, but it is relevant per a pure minimal kernel version standpoint per engineering.

Linux Landing Page is also scheduled to reflect things a bit better (likely tomorrow). Same as this KB article. :slightly_smiling_face:
