I did 3D print the official model on the Framework github, It didn’t fit exactly 
I also let it print via pcbway, but also there not a perfect fit.. I think the model is not exact enough to have a perfect fit … too bad
Framework owner did show a full touchpad piece in one of his videos where they are still doing tests to see if they can make a sturdy full piece one and I think touchpad was even bigger on it aswell.
So they are working on a solution and hopefully they will release something soon to solve this , hopefully.
He was going on about some kind of haptic ? touchpad, nobody ever asked for, when all we want is an option to select a 1 piece plate for Left/Middle/Right.
No, he was talking about whole frame and touchpad together, instead of having 2 extra pieces this one was full 1 single piece and instead of having same touchpad size on current one, they also made touchpad bigger while at it.
Video bellow shows CEO (i think it is) with a prototype of the new wide touchpad and palm rest in 1 piece instead of us needing these 2 side pieces. But right now that is not yet released and is in testing stages: you can play from 1:53
Also yes it’s haptic as well, i don’t mind it being haptic instead of moving touchpad clicking. Then it is like mac with a sturdy touchpad that does haptic feeling.
Note: He also mentioned they are un-sure yet if this prototype is going to go through or if chance it will be scrapped.

I am holding off buying a FW16 only because of the spacers… (Many?) others might too…

I know, but it will be plastic. How is the finish? And IMHO this should not be needed in the first place.
I fear more people are bothered by the spacers than would be bothered by a single centered touchpad option. I would not mind that, even though I do plan to get the numpad.

To be fair, a ton of people have asked for a haptic touchpad, MacBook users. I like the hinge better than the fake click, but I always figured I was in the minority.
For anyone still coming to this thread, they did announce/release a full width touchpad module recently:

Not shipping yet in DE, when ordering a new FWL16 with this touchpad it ships in July
This is nice if you want the touchpad in the middle and not below the keyboard if you have the number block on the right side.
I 3D printed everything, was working nice for some time, but now the touchpad isn’t working anymore and the keyboard also has problems. There are some connection problems and I’m going back to the original touchpad. Hopefully everything will work again.
